On-line surveys can play an important role in the design, development and analysis of your flexwork program. The Telecommuting Advantage Group, (TAG), uses an on-line survey tool that allows individuals to access surveys via the Internet at their leisure. TAG will design each survey with your input, distribute it, collect the data and provide you with a report summarizing the results. Flexwork is a new way of doing business for many organizations. Gathering information from members of your organization prior to implementing a flexwork pilot and/or program can be extremely valuable in the design and overall success of the program. The most common types of surveys that we utilize include:
Managers’ Pre-Rollout Survey
During the investigation stage of a flexwork program it is helpful to collect information on the experiences, perceived potential benefits and concerns of your supervisors/managers. Survey results allows us to help you gear program development towards obtaining the most significant benefits possible, proactively address existing concerns managers may have about flexwork, and gauge managers’ overall acceptance of flexwork. Since, the executive management team is often focused on how overall management will accept and adjust to a telework arrangement, collecting and presenting such data helps create top leadership buy-in.
Managers’ Post-Rollout Survey
After the completion of a flexwork pilot or a flexwork program roll-out, the program may be modified based in part on feedback from your supervisors/ managers. This type of survey assesses the impact of the flexwork pilot or program on the managers and their workgroups, as well as managers’ acceptance of the program. Any unanticipated issues and/or benefits can also be identified at this point. In addition, if using a phased roll-out or expanding an existing program, results from this survey can inform and help modify the program to enhance its effectiveness.
Employees’ Pre-Rollout Survey
Similar to the Managers’ Pre-Rollout Survey, this survey is intended to collect information on the experiences, perceived potential benefits and concerns of your employees. In addition, this survey can be used to collect commute statistics, degrees of employee interest in various types of flexwork as well as assessments of how employees believe flexwork fits the people, culture and job-tasks of your organization. By utilizing such results, organizations can anticipate the level and types of flexwork participation. During the design of the flexwork program, these results will also help in the customization of the benefits and outcomes to be examined, as well as the nature of website construction and training to optimize the success of the program.
Employees’ Post-Rollout Survey
The organization may want to know how the implementation of a flexwork program or pilot has affected not only the flexworkers themselves, but their managers, co-workers, other employees of the organization - and even customers. A post-rollout survey can help identify these impacts, how well the process worked for those employees who did apply for flexwork programs, and how the program is affecting the attitudes of all of the employees in the organization towards flexwork. After the initial rollout or pilot phase of a program gauging the impact on flexworkers and their co-workers can assist in modifying and growing the program.
